Exploration goal and scope
The Audio Description Learning Lab is an exploratory, first-person simulation for higher education faculty, staff, and students. Its purpose is to demonstrate how audio description can affect:
- Access to visually communicated information
- Understanding of instructional content
- Retention and application of learning
- Performance on a related knowledge check
Learners watch a visual-only math lesson, change the simulated viewing condition, compare description quality, and experience standard versus extended audio description.

The activity is intentionally framed as an exploration of selected access barriers. It is not a recreation of any person’s disability or lived experience.
Accessibility
Accessibility features include keyboard, mouse, and touch operation; semantic headings; visible focus indicators; responsive layouts; reduced-motion support; alt text; high-contrast controls; status announcements; a full transcript; and an equivalent quiz pathway outside the intentionally altered visual simulation.
