The Problem
When faculty independently capture media for their courses, small errors in camera placement can significantly compromise the quality and usability of their content. Common issues included faculty appearing in their own 360-degree footage due to improper distancing, and cameras positioned too high in doorways, obstructing key visual information within the VR space.
Simply instructing faculty on correct technique wasn’t enough without a concrete visual reference. There was a clear need for a resource that demonstrated the consequences of placement errors alongside practical guidance for getting it right.
What I Built
An interactive ThingLink graphic combining standard images and 360-degree images to show how camera position directly affects what a viewer experiences. The goal was practical: give faculty a visual reference for where to stand, how to hold the camera, and when to use the Insta360 app to make the process easier.
Where it Lives
The graphic is embedded in the Faculty Multimedia Center’s on-demand webcourse, available to all UCF faculty, staff, and students. It’s positioned at the start of a 360 Media and Content Creation module, intentionally placed before the tutorial videos so learners build a conceptual foundation before jumping into technique.

Beyond the course, it’s become a practical reference tool: staff pull it up during project consultations and gear checkouts to walk faculty through best practices in the moment.
